Seasonal Depression Seasonal Depression also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is most common during the winter months when the days are darker. This is believed to be linked to lessening of sunlight leading to some people becoming sad. Most sufferers of SAD see their mood lighten and they become happier as spring arrives.
Depression can be seasonal just like the other illnesses. With the lapse of time the symptoms of depression also fade away. Seasonal depression is specially seen in the winters in countries like the UK. The cloudy, chilly, dark and windy weather continues for days together. This kind of weather proves to be very depressing even to the people who are not exactly depressed.
A very effective treatment for seasonal depression is light therapy. Light therapy, or light box therapy are specially built light boxes with a specific type of light bulbs that are very bright. These light boxes are usually mounted on a table stand. Patient are generally seated approximately 1 to 2 feet from the box and light therapy sessions last about half an hour.
If you are feeling depressed following a change in season talk to your health care provider and establish a method of treatment.
